I got a .avi file that I want to convert. Each time I try it says that the file isnt a video or that the extension is not supported. The file is in .avi. What is wrong

There are many types of AVI. For eg. divx, xvid, microsoft mpeg 4, cinepak and etc. You must have the particular avi video codec installed before can convert them. Please download a video inspector software to check which codec you are missing. Thanks

It says Xvid MPEG-4 codec which I dont have in my .avi list. I tried with Microsoft MPEG-4 which doesnt work.

To convert in MPEG, default is MPEG-1. Is MPEG-2 better or does is it just not as big as a .AVI
